Marketing and Products

When I applied for Barclays, I was looking for a leadership scheme as opposed to a management scheme.

Marketing and Products

Applications for this programme have now closed.

The work of the Marketing and Products team touches just about every area of our retail banking business. So, as a summer intern, you’ll be able to get a unique perspective on the banking industry, while at the same time gaining significant insights into a marketing career.

You’ll also have the opportunity to play an active role in shaping our products and services so that they meet our customers’ needs.

What we look for

Absolutely everything we do revolves around our customers, and working within our Marketing and Products department will give you the perfect opportunity to see how we fine-tune our products and services to meet those customers’ needs.

Here are some examples of what you could be doing over the course of the summer:

  • Developing a product development proposal on how to use social media successfully to engage with youth audiences
  • Visiting our advertising and marketing agencies to learn about how we develop through-the-line marketing campaigns
  • Carrying out research into customer behaviour
  • Learning how we plan and develop our marketing strategies

Meet our people

When it comes to seeing more of what makes our Summer Internships so special, it’s a good idea to ask those who know best – the people who have already been through it. Here’s what a couple of our previous interns have to say about their experiences.

To make sure you get the most out of the experience, we’ll give you meaningful objectives to achieve and regular feedback to help you with your personal and professional development.

You’ll also be working alongside experienced managers and colleagues who’ll support you every step of the way.

Developing you

What do you learn on an internship? What are the opportunities to develop? Hear from interns and Future Leaders about the many development opportunities at Barclays.

We’ll pay you a salary of £450 per week for the eight weeks you spend with us.

So as well as benefiting from new skills, experiences and insights, you should be able to finish the programme £3,600 better off than you started it.

We see this not as a typical internship but more as a preliminary stage in your journey towards an extraordinary leadership career.

To help us make sure that’s how you see it too, you should be looking to join a graduate scheme (preferably ours) the year following the internship, whether you’re currently in your penultimate year at university or a finalist planning a gap year or further study before starting a permanent role.

Given that this is a stepping stone to our Future Leaders Development Programme, we’ll also expect you to be able to demonstrate the same behaviours we look for in our Future Leaders.

There are some basic academic requirements you’ll need to meet as well:

  • 2:1 minimum expected degree
  • 300+ UCAS points from your top three A-Levels (or equivalent)
